Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Spalding. In May 1767, Jean-Jacques Rousseau spent nine days at the inn "White Hart" on the market place. During his getaway to England (1765-1767), following the conviction in France of the "Emile" and the "Social Contract", he stopped there on the way to his to Dover. |
